Re: Do they still make serials anywhere in the world? |
there are still several serials PD not uploaded. Alpha has a few (overland mail, king of the wild, sky raiders, etc.), Mil Creek has the Lone Ranger serial but not sure the quality as well as other RIn TIN serials (available in Wal-mart $5 bin). Only the Serials squadron has quality copy of that one, which would fall under the restored catagory. In words, copyrighted.
I think the chinese are only one who make serials still w. vietnamese subtitles. My asian friends love watching them.

Are Lone Ranger movie serials and Rin Tin Tin movie serials in the Public Domain? I have those. If someone can assure me that they're Public Domain I'll be happy to upload them. I'll need to see some kind of proof of Public Domain first, though.

Would you list the names of the serials with the years they were released? It would help.

Lone Ranger Serial 1938
Do you think Mill Creek's Release is PD?

Re: Do they still make serials anywhere in the world? |
Any movie released by Alpha is considered PD. This includes B/W serials. I mean under their studio, not website. The sell other studio like VCI, Fox, columbia. There one needs to look at their listing of Alpha products. few others like king of the wild (mascot), gang busters (universal), tom mix, the miracle rider (mascot, all mascots in PD, because of fire that destroy the studio)
I did check films superlist on the LR serial, it was not renewed. Serials squardon has LR listed as PD as well.
I cannot prove anything to be PD. As far as I am concerned no one can prove anything to be PD after 1923. What if Copyright office did not list the renewal on any of these serials posted by accident??????? In other words, I cannot come up w. any 100 % guarentee that any movie is PD. Read the comment on Mclintok where some is trying to copyright the film.
For dates I will have to do research.

Re: Do they still make serials anywhere in the world? |
sorry only the LR serial is in PD not the LRRA (rides again). Superlist has that renewed but Serial squadron assumes its PD. I'm not sure republic knows that is it renewed as well as Serial squadron.
I hope the LR serial is watchable, all I saw was poor VHS copy, which I refused to copy to DVD.

Re: Do they still make serials anywhere in the world? |
What I have looks watchable to me, but I'll have to completely reformat them first - I don't know what they'll be like after that, but I don't see why they'd change any.
If someone else has copies ready to upload, they can do it otherwise it'll take me a little bit of time to rip these then reformat them.

Great, If they look watchable. I have not seen any other version but samples of restored republics LR serial 1938 from serial squardon. You have to be a die hard LR serial fan to pay that amount for something that is not in Great quality.

I'll upload those in a few weeks - I'm going to time it so that my friend can put them on her website. :)

Do you recommend the Mil Creek Lone Ranger DVD set LR serial w. TV epidsodes or not worth any money spend on it.
Thanks
